Uwharrie Work Weekend 09-21-03

Uwharrie workday, Sunday, Sept. 21, 2001.

I could only come up on Sunday so I arrived at Hunt Camp at 9:21 am. No one was there except a YJ waiting for some friends.

After a few minutes Kevin Walker and Tana, Jeff Boone and his buddy, and another person that I don't remember showed up. We waited for a while, Kevin said that there was fencing materials laid out on Dickey Bell so we figured that's where we were going to work.

Soon Spence and Bran showed up and said that they were already at the trail working so we headed towards the trails. All of those guys went to Dickey Bell via Daniel, I went straight to the worksite. There I met Scott Fields, Don Woodward from the National Association of XJ owners club (or something like that), Tom McKenzie, and a couple of other nameless people. Don Custer and his son showed up as well did Mark ------ from Trailblazers.

We split into two groups and installed fence on both sides of the trail. The spiderwebbing has gotten terrible up the side of the hills and the existing fencing is in a shambles.

We used all of our supplies by about 1:15 and ate lunch. I had hoped to do some wheeling that afternoon but the crowd didn't break up until about 2:30 and it was time for me to head back home. The others headed for the trails but Thomas and I had to go.

Dickey Bell (our adopted trail) needs a lot of work. The top side will have to be fenced in to keep violators from doing more damage.

It was definately a nice day to work, not too hot, and a good area to work on that really needed it. We'll need to finish this project up at the next workweekend so ya'll come on out!

We had a decent turnout at the work weekend. Jeff Boone and myself camped Saturday night and did a night ride.  We arrived a little late at Hunt camp and Richard was waiting there. Turns out the work crew actually left on time for once. Spence showed up and we headed to Dickey Bell to build some fence.  Richard went straight there but my group went to Dickey Bell via Daniel.  Once at Dickey Bell we ran into Thomas Mckenzie and the others.  Helped them build fence until we ran out of supplies.
