Day - 2

After a nights rest, Wes and John took the truck to the dealership to get it fixed. They dropped it off and went to eat breakfast, and to their surprise the truck was sitting outside the service department when they got finished. They went back to see what was going on. The service technician deemed the problem to be unfixable. That, of course was not an acceptable answer for John and Wes. So, they proceeded to take over the service bay, and fix the problem, which was a nut had come off of the shaft that held fifth gear. Meanwhile, Joe was dealing with his first issue of the trip. The night before, while pulling into the hotel, the wiring to the trailer had gotten bound and broke. He enlisted the help of Brad at the Custom Van and 4x4 Center to fix the problem. Now it’s back on the open road trying to get out of this demon state of Tennessee.  About a half hour after we were under way Joe and I had a brief stop for a tire repair which we attribute to our curse of a passenger, one Jennifer Stowe. Was it merely coincidence that the truck that she was in yesterday had the trouble, and now the truck that she is in today just blew a tire? You decide?

About 150 miles after we were underway John lost fifth gear. The nut had once again came off of the shaft, so we pulled in at a truck stop and pulled the transfer case and cracked the tranny open; only this time Wes welded the nut on the shaft. We forged ahead to Oklahoma City where we rest our tired eyes for a while so that we may get first thing in the morning and make the final push to Moab; all 928 miles of it.
