Day 9- Lion’s Back, Potato Salad Hill, and Tower Arch trail.

This was quite a day. Lion’s Back was quite a site to behold. Even the pictures didn’t do it justice. First were Wes, Margaret, and Taylor. The climb and descent were both slow and steady. When Wes got to the bottom, after climbing the beast, he fell to the ground. For Wes, this whole trip centered on climbing Lion’s back, and he had done it. Next was John Stowe, and he even gave us a little no hands action on the steepest section at the bottom. Then came Brett. I rode with him because my fear of heights would not allow me to take the Rat up to the top.

After the legendary Lion’s Back, we went down the road a half mile to Potato Salad Hill, and no Tim I didn’t roll on Potato Salad Hill. It was shorter than we had all expected. The obstacle itself was only about 20 feet long, but it was every bit as steep as we had expected. Brett went first, and his wheel base was less than ideal for the hill. Next was Wes who also took cable to get to the top, only because we were all kind of taking it easy on our rigs due to the wrench fest from the prior day. After that I took the Rat straight to the top with liberal use of the throttle. John followed suit and topped the hill next.

After Potato Salad Hill we made the journey to Arches National Park and rode the very scenic Tower Arch trail. At the end of the trail the front passenger spring hanger gave way on John’s Jeep. Wes welded it up  in short order and we were on our way.
